WELCOME 6 GHz

Since 2017, the Wi-Fi community has been pushing for free access to the new 6GHz spectrum section. The existing use for fixed lines is gradually being replaced by optical backbone routes. We do not want each new spectrum to be allocated to three entrepreneurs in the form of mobile operators. We support the possibility of using the latest technologies, applications and services without licenses.

The Wi-Fi community strongly supports the opening of
the 6 GHz band (5925–7125 MHz) while ensuring the protection of established services, mainly fixed satellite and fixed services.

We are not alone - around the world, their telecommunications authorities are making all or part of the 6 GHz band available unlicensed, while others await consultation and evaluation.

At the same time, the standards for 802.11 and their certification are completed. A number of technical solutions with at least a gigabit transmission speed are already available on the market.

The WiFi Alliance, which is behind the development of IEEE 802.11 license-free technologies, provides all households and businesses with options very similar to the last generations of mobile networks.
Many global enterprises use similar mathematical models as in 3GPP  5G and later.

The difference between the technologies is the availability of the frequency band. Let's not take away the freedom to spread wireless data streams without a mobile operator.

We need the 6 GHz (5925-7125 MHz) band to meet national broadband targets and maximize the economic benefit to society.

Without the conservation of frequency means, it will not be possible to distribute optical capacities in the premises of companies and households in the coming decades.
The 6GHz band is the last chance for decades to maintain a multi-player market.

Wi-Fi is crucial for connectivity

More than 16 billion Wi-Fi devices worldwide are now an essential part of broadband provision. Wi-Fi enables businesses to operate and people to connect to the Internet in urban, suburban and rural areas. The new generation of Wi-Fi / Wi-Fi 6E can enable a number of new applications bringing social and economic benefits.

The need for unlicensed 6 GHz access

Companies can use the license-exempt spectrum to develop new services. Current Wi-Fi bands
(2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) do not provide contiguous blocks of spectrum for wider channels that will allow Wi-Fi 6E to deliver optimal performance for speed and latency. With appropriate rules, Wi-Fi can coexist with fixed systems and other existing users of the 6 GHz spectrum.

Use the full potential of the entire 6 GHz band

There is an urgent need to provide license-free access to the full 1200 MHz of the 6 GHz band to meet the ever-increasing demands for broadband services and applications. The Wi-Fi 6E standards are complete, the equipment is on the market and ready to go, plus authorization of unlicensed spectrum across the band would benefit mobile offload and backhaul.

Wi-Fi in the Czech Republic

The Wi-Fi wireless network plays an important role in the transmission of data in households and companies in the Czech Republic. This network is already efficient and widespread, with a significantly higher amount of data transferred compared to mobile networks. Wi-Fi networks are also much more efficient in their use of available radio frequencies, able to transmit much more data per unit of frequency band. The document draws attention to the trend of building wireless local networks using the Wi-Fi standard, which means that the lack of free radio frequencies for Wi-Fi devices is starting to prevent the full use of data connections.

Given these facts, the authors of the document emphasize that the 6 GHz band should be made available for license-free use, especially for Wi-Fi services. This could support the competitiveness and availability of electronic communication services in the Czech Republic.
